Ancaster Blue Ruffle Iris

July 20, 2021

The Ancaster Blue Ruffle iris was propagated for the celebration of the Ancaster’s 200th anniversary in 1993. The Ancaster Horticultural Society worked with McMillen’s Iris Gardens in Norwich, Ontario to formally register this with the Canadian Iris Society. In a naming contest within the horticultural society the rippled edges were likened to the ruffles on a kitchen apron and the name stuck. A portrait of this emblem of the town of Ancaster hangs in Fieldcote Museum, where several plants also reside in their lovely gardens.
